die Bäckerei

One of the strongest characteristics of Germany is its bread. Germany has the highest quality of bread in the world and in fact, it offers over 300 different types of bread. A major reason for this is the fact that ingredients such as grains, wheat, spelled and rye, originate in Germany. In addition, there is an investment in the training of bakers in Germany, which gives them a high degree of creativity, which does not exist in other countries. In fact, a culture of art has been created by bakers that turns bread in Germany into a main food in itself and not just an addition to a normal meal.

Types of bread such as Katenbrot (barn bread), Fünfkornbrot (five grain bread), Dreikornbrot (another type, very similar grain bread), Sonnenblumenbrot (sunflower seed bread), Pumpernickel (the well known dark brown bread), Hörnchen (croissant), Milchbrötchen (made with dash of milk), Vollkornbrot (whole grain bread) are very popular in Germany and can be found both in supermarkets and bakeries

In fact, Bakeries can be found all over Germany and many tourists who come to Germany buy lots of German bread because of its high quality. I personally prefer the dark bread over the white bread because it is healthier.

Bread prices in Germany are considered very reasonable. A quality loaf of bread can cost you from 1.5€ to 2.5€ and even a little more.

German bread is undoubtedly a part of German culture, so when you visit Germany, don't forget to visit a bakery.
